The Portuguese manager José Mourinho only has an average record to the Spanish club Real Madrid according to the former sporting director of the club, Jorge Valdano. Jorge Valdano was one of the first persons at Real Madrid to lose the power struggle between him and José Mourinho.
As a result, he had to depart from the club whilst Mourinho continued to remain as the manager. There has always been a lot of friction between the two and Valdano’s latest comments will only serve to increase the tension. He has said that Mourinho does not have a great record at Real Madrid when compared with his previous clubs.
It is widely expected that Mourinho will leave the Spanish club at the end of the season after overseeing one of the worst forms in the domestic campaign. Madrid have fallen 16 points behind their arch rivals Barcelona, which has simply been not good enough for the president. Even though Real Madrid managed to win their first league title last season for the first time in three seasons, the current poor run of form and the inability to challenge Barcelona has been viewed with a lot of discontent within the camp. Valdano has said that he thinks that Mourinho only has an average record at Real Madrid, which has been proved by the results this season.
“Since [Alfredo] Di Stefano’s era, Real Madrid have won more titles than all the other Spanish teams together. That means the team wins a title every two years. Mourinho is within the average – he has taken two years and has won a title. Tactical technicians are gaining importance in football. Mourinho is associated with the word victory. He has won seven league titles in 10 years and the desperation to win remains with him,” said Valdano.
